Del Prado Coaches 2011

John Reimer

9-10 Coach

reimer_jr@sbcglobal.net

John started swimming competitively as a freshman at Terra Linda High  School in San Rafael and swam all four years there. For several summers,  he also swam for a local Marin County summer swim league team. After turning 18, John worked as an assistant coach for two summers for this  team. Particularly memorable were some of the field trips each age group  went on, such as the 8&U boys acting like monkeys at the San Francisco Zoo
and the 9-10 girls putting on a show and singing for tourists in Ghiradelli Square.

John attended CalTech, swimming (mostly butterfly and  long-distance freestyle) and playing water polo for four years. After  graduating, he worked for JPL, attended grad school at USC,and swam for  the local Master’s swim team, competing in both pool meets and ocean  swims.

John and Rosario were married in 1996 and moved back to the Bay  Area in 2001 to be closer to both their families, with John taking a  position with Lockheed-Martin at NASA Ames Research Center. They have three  sons on the Stingrays, James , Steven , and David.

After high school, Jamie attended Chico State and graduated in May of 2007 with a BA in History and an option in social sciences. The past four years she has been coaching JV swimming at either FHS or Dougherty Valley High School. As well as being active with the students outside of the classroom, she has also been participating in the education inside the classroom as a history teacher at Dougherty Valley High School.
This will be Jamie’s 12th year working at the pool and 9th year coaching a team that she considers to be part of her family. GO STINGRAYS!

Niki Doi

13-14 Coach

niknakd@yahoo.com

Niki joined the Del Prado Stingrays when she was 6, and swam on the team until last year when she graduated from Foothill High School. She swam on Foothill’s team all four years and is swimming at Seattle University, where she now attends school. She started teaching lessons at Del Prado, as an aid, in seventh grade and enjoyed the experience so much that she has been teaching ever since. The Del Prado Swim Team has had such a positive impact on her life and she is so thrilled to have been given the opportunity to remain a part of the team.

Eric Gates

6 & Under Coach

esgates@slugmail.ucsc.edu

Eric started on the Del Prado Swim Team when he was eight years old and was an active swimmer ever since then. At Amador Valley High School, Eric swam on the Varsity Men’s Swim Team for four years, but always enjoyed Del Prado swimming so much more. Eric now attends UC Santa Cruz and studies BioEngineering. The Del Prado Swim Team has always been the best part of summer for Eric and he is very excited to be able to remain part of the team!

Jillian Blandino

7 – 8 Coach

jillian.blandino@gmail.com

Jill started swimming with the Del Prado Stingrays at the age of 7 when she first decided she wantedto be a coach at Del Prado. Though swimming wasn’t her primary focus, thanks to the RAGE SoccerProgram, she was competitive and learned the importance of teamwork. Jill continued to swim with Del Prado as well as swimming all four years of high school at Foothill High. During her summers shetaught swim lessons, which helped her build a coaching mindset. Since graduation from Foothill High, Jill has had the privilege to coach for the Del Prado Stingrays. She has been able to teach, enforce proper swimming techniques, encourage safety as well as promote fun while at the pool. Currently, Jill attends Chico State University- still playing soccer as well as studying Business Marketing. Every summer Jill looks forward to being a part of the Del Prado Swim Team as well as having the opportunity to coach the younger stingrays!

Del Prado Swim Team Coordinator

Joan Strom

This is Joan’s 17th season involved with the Del Prado Swim Team board and her tenth season as coordinator. She loves this job and the swim team. Her children have swam for the Stingrays since 1995. This is the last season for her youngest who is graduating in June from Foothill. Her husband Jay is the team announcer so this is really a family affair. When she’s not by the side of the pool cheering on the team you can catch her gardening or working at Alden Lane Nursery.
