Championships Summary

August 3, 2008

What a wonderful championship meet today. I cannot thank everyone enough for everything each of you did today to make the day so special. I really don’t care what the score says, Del Prado is #1 and the best team in the league. I may sound biased, but I’m not. All of us should be so proud of our team.

Swimmers, what great races today. Del Prado didn’t have one single scratch or change in the meet. Very impressive. You all showed up on time (and it was sooo early) and ready to swim. We watched great races. It was so exciting to see some of you swim your very best ever today. We had so many new swimmers to our team who dropped so much time today in their races. You’ve come so far since your first practice back in may. I love to see that growth and success. Congratulations. We also had one pool record broken today–the 13-14 girls’ free relay team of Lindsey DeWilde, Elaine gates, Laura Klein, and Stephanie Doi broke a two-year-old record with a time of 1:51.67. Great race, girls.

Parents, I know I say it all the time, but thank you so much for helping run a great meet today. Did you see Del Prado’s representation?– Terry Beatty, Jay Strom, Ralph Costa, Martin Gates–just to name a few–held key positions in today’s meet. Thank you to the dawn patrol ( you know who you are) who came early (4:00 a.m.) to set up pop-ups for the team so we’d have shade and a nice spot to call home for the day. Thank you to Beth Borchers and her crew of parent helpers who did above-and-beyond in helping get the swimmers in the right places and all those other volunteer positions. What an amazing group of people you are.

Coaches, you make us proud. You seeded us a great meet and provided instruction and encouragement to help us reach our goals. Thank you for putting your heart and soul into our team these last 8 weeks or so. You are the very best. Just in case you were wondering split times on their relay, it went something like this: Jamie 31. something; Julianne 39.something; John 29.something; and Tom 27.something. Very good indeed!

Tomorrow is our team awards party and potluck BBQ. We will start serving dinner at 5:00 p.m. please bring something to share and your swim team board will provide the burgers, dogs, and drinks. The awards part of the evening will begin about 6:00 p.m. unfortunately, Coach Jamie will not be able to attend our party. She has a “real job”- related conference that she must attend before she begins her new job at Foothill. She will be on her way to Vancouver in the morning. Jamie, be safe, learn lots, and we’ll miss you.

Well, it’s been quite a week–from practice to pancakes, swim buddies to new friendships, chalk fairy visits to fantastic races–it’s been a pleasure to be part of this team all season. Thank you.

Go Del Prado!
Joan

Hi. I just have a few things I want to remind you about:

Practice

We will only have practice tomorrow (Tuesday) night and Wednesday night. Enjoy all the end-of-the-schoolyear events the rest of the week. Congratulations to seniors Taylor Peterson (FHS) and Cole Payan (AVHS).

The last day for a refund is this Wednesday, June 11.

Time Trials - Monday, June 16th 5:00pm

We will be holding time trials next Monday, June 16. All swimmers need to be at the pool at 5:00 p.m. We will begin the trials once the pool is set-up and ready.

We cannot begin putting lane lines in until 5 p.m. As soon as we are set-up, We will begin the trials. We will need set-up people (show up around 4:30 to put out blocks, chairs, etc.), clean-up people, timers, runner for taking sheets into office and people to enter the times. Terry Beatty will give a short presentation for all new timers from about 5:10-5:20PM.

“Dive into the Season” Dessert Potluck Party

When we finish we all will enjoy our first party of the season–our Dive into The Season dessert potluck. Bring something yummy to share with the rest of the team. Swimmers and families are welcome at this event. Your swim team board will provide the drinks and all paper products. If the weather stays warm, it will be a nice night to be at the pool.

Picture Day - June 17th 8:00am

Tuesday, June 17 is picture day. You can begin to arrive at 8:00 a.m. wearing your Del Prado suit. The team picture will be snapped at 8:30 sharp. I will have extra picture order forms that morning.

First Swim Meet - Saturday 21st

Our first meet is a week from Saturday, June 21 at FAST. That meet will begin a bit later than usual–9:30 a.m. Since we aren’t having all the normal practices this week, I want to remind you that if your swimmer won’t be able to swim at that meet, their coach needs to know in writing by next Monday, June 16.

Pool Setup and Signups

April 23, 2008

Saturday, April 26th at 8:00AM the Del Prado pool crew is setting up the equipment for another swim season at the Del Prado Cabana. If you are able to help setup please drop by the pool Saturday morning to help out.

Saturday at 9:00AM - 1:00pm the following pool activity signups will take place:

  • Swim Lessons
  • Swim Team Conditioning
  • Book Group Parties
  • Aquacise Classes

Conditioning/Swim Lessons

The Del Prado Cabana Club will be offering a Conditioning Class between April 28 and May 22. (Monday through Thursday for 4 weeks from 5:00-6:00 p.m.) These sessions are for swimmers 7 years old & up and are open to the general public.(6&under swimmers may participate if previously on the swim team and with recommendation from their coach.) You may choose to condition either 6 sessions ($40), 8 sessions ($50), 12 sessions ($65), or 16 sessions ($85). You may sign-up for this program at the Cabana Club on April 26 from 9:00 –1:00 p.m. Additionally, swim lessons will be offered by the Del Prado Cabana Club starting in June. The coaches want to remind you that Swim Team is not a substitute for swim lessons. If you feel that your swimmer needs personalized attention, or your swimmer wants to perform at a higher level, we strongly suggest/highly encourage you take advantage of the Cabana Club programs. The coaches feel every swimmer 10 years and younger can benefit/should be in some sort of lesson.

Note: The first conditioning class starts Monday, April 28 @ 5:00pm - 6:00pm.

If you missed the swim team meeting and need to signup for swim team duties please contact Beth Borchers via email as soon as possible.  mailto:beth@bborchers.com

Here are some photos from Beth Borcher of the pancake breakfast the other day. I think Alex Glenn had it right with his quote that this was “the best day of my life“.
