Meet 1 – DP vs. FAST

June 23, 2010

Final score:

  • Del Prado 673
  • FAST 273

Whew, that was a long one! The first meet of the year is the one that, hopefully, takes the longest to complete. We had some new software/computer glitches and getting info from the other team, that took longer than expected. All in all, it was a good first meet.

Thank you to all the volunteers who worked today. We couldn’t have done it without you and your help. As you witnessed today, it takes many, many people to run a meet. Rob Jetter, I especially loved seeing you in your DP red line-up apron. What a dad!

Thank you to all the swimmers who made it to the pool and checked in on time. That helps your coaching staff so much. And, you all swam so well today–especially with one week’s less practice time than usual. There’s much more to work on, but you’re off to a great start. Congratulations to all our brand-new swimmers. Your first meet is under your belt (or Speedo) now. Congratulations also go out to Jack Payan (15-18) who broke a five-year-old record in the 50 free with a time of 22.61; Eric Gates (15-18) who broke two records today. The first was in the 50 fly with a time of 25.55. That record was set in 2003, tied in 2005 and broken today by Eric. He also broke a ten-year-old record in the 50 back with a time of 26.96. Way to swim fast!

Coaches, you are the best. I say this all the time, but we do have the best coaching staff in the league. It’s always a pleasure to be hanging out by the side of the pool with you. You put in hours of hard work, and I appreciate it. Coach Eric, have a great time in Cabo San Lucas this week, celebrating your graduation from Amador.

Don’t forget to turn in your championship t-shirt order by July 2.

Reminder

Our next meet is Saturday, June 26, against DBAC (Pleasanton Aquatic Center) at our pool. All swimmers must arrive and be checked in by their coach by 8:00 a.m. The scratch meeting will be at 8:15 and, cross your fingers, the meet will start at 9:00. You have until this Monday, June 21, to let your coach know in writing if you will not be swimming in this meet. Please email your coach and copy me on your message.

That’s it for now. Enjoy the rest of the weekend and, dads, Happy Father’s Day to you.

Swim Team Reminders

June 8, 2010

Hi. The way the calendar falls this year, we are short one week of practice before our meets begin.
This means everything will be starting SOON. Get ready.
This will be a fast and furious swim season.

We will not have practice on Thursday and Friday of this week.

Happy graduation to all our senior swimmers and happy summer vacation to all.
The last day for a refund is Wednesday, June 9. Please email me if you will be dropping from the team.

Time Trials:
Monday, June 14, is our time trials.

All swimmers will show up at the pool at 5:00 p.m.

We will run practice like a meet.
This will give everyone a chance to see how a meet works.
It will also give all swimmers a “time” for every event which the coaches will use to seed our meets.
If your swimmer can’t attend, don’t worry.

They will just be seeded with “no time” until they actually swim that event in a dual meet.
We will need help in getting the pool set-up for time trials and help putting it all away along with at least 12 timers/recorders, a starter, and head timer.
If you can help with this, please contact Beth Borchers at beth@bborchers. com

Volunteers:
Speaking of Beth, she is our wonderful meet coordinator.
She does a thankless job which is getting everyone on our team to volunteer to help run our meets.
If we don’t have help, we can’t run a very good meet–which by the way, Del Prado is known for running fast, efficient, and fun meets.
She needs everyone’s help. We ask that each family volunteer to help at least 5 times.
I know that seems like a lot, but you really will like helping.
You’ll get to know new people and no job is terrible.
You will always get to see your swimmer race no matter what position you help with.

This year we are hosting two extra home meets.
FAST cannot use the Foothill High School pool for their meet with us
Pleasanton Meadows cannot use their home pool this season.

We have offered to have those meets at our pool so we can still swim against them.
This makes it nicer that we won’t have to travel to their pool, but it also creates a bit more work for us.
We have to staff home meets with more people than away meets, so we really need everyone’s help to make this happen–and to make Beth’s job a bit easier.
Thank you in advance for your help and continued support.

Dive-into-the-Season Dessert Party:
After time trials are over on Monday, (hopefully around 7:30-ish) we will have our Dive-into-the-Season Dessert Party.
Each family is asked to bring some type of dessert to share.
We will have a dessert potluck for all swim team families.
Your swim team will provide the paper goods and drinks. This is a good time for all to meet the coaches and enjoy each other’s company. If the weather is nice, fun times playing in the pool as well.

Picture Day:
Tuesday, June 15 will be picture day.
All swimmers should arrive at the pool around 8:00 a.m.-ish in their team swim suit. The team photo will be taken at 8:30 sharp.

Whew, I think that’s it for now.
I told you I had lots of info for you.
Take good care and see you at the pool.

All schedule information for the Pool and the Swim Team can be found at Sammy’s Cove
