Del Prado at DBAC

July 12, 2009

Stingrays! It was terrific outing Saturday at Dolores Bengtson Aquatic Center. It was a closely contested meet. Great swims by all Stingrays.

The final score is:

Del Prado   521.50
DBAC          475.50

Complete meet results can be downloaded here –> DP vs DBAC Results

That was a close one today. DBAC’s coordinator and I were talking early in the meet. She couldn’t remember when, if ever, DBAC had ever beaten Del Prado. They showed up prepared and gave us great swim races. Championships is going to be very, very interesting this year. By the way, Club Sport lost today to Dublin. This has been a very unusual season thus far. I think the competition is being rounded out by all teams which is good.

Thank you, swimmers, for trying your best again today. You gave us some very exciting races to watch.

Thank you, coaches, for seeding us a good meet and for helping our swimmers to continue improving. A big thank you to Coaches Eric, Niki, and Jill who helped out a lot today because of Coach Julianne’s absence. I know Julianne appreciated your help–as do I.

Parents, once again you were great. Thank you for showing up on time and for all those that helped run today’s meet. A big thank you to Randy Vandiver who brought the pop-up tent for the coaches and myself. You always go above and beyond and we all thank you.

Yeah, no Wednesday night meet this week. We can rest up a bit. Our pasta feed is this Thursday after each practice session. Your Del Prado Swim Team Board will provide a delicious, guaranteed-for-fast-swims dinner. If you’d like to join us for dinner, please RSVP to me by today. I’ll send in the final count to Kim Beatty, our pasta coordinator, tomorrow morning. The meal is free to swimmers and $5/person for any that would like to join us. This is a fund-raiser for our junior coaching program. Our next meet is next Saturday, July 18, against Ruby Hill at our pool. All swimmers must arrive and be checked in with their coach by 8:00 a.m. The scratch meeting will be at 8:15, and the meet will start (fingers crossed) at 9:00. You have until this Monday to notify your coach if your swimmer will not be swimming in this meet. If you know now that your swimmer won’t be swimming against Pleasanton Meadows (July 25) or champs (August 1), please notify your coach now. We only have a few swimmers “out” for those meets and we need to start to get a good count for who we’ll have for those meets.

One of our families has a youth medium Del Prado sweatshirt that they’d like to pass along to any swimmer who could use/want it. It’s in great shape–just too small now for their swimmer. It’s a red hooded sweatshirt with a white stripe down the sleeve. If you’d like this, don’t be shy. Let me know, and I’ll get it for you. Sharing and hand-me-downs are great–just ask my kids.

Take good care. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Go Stingrays,

Joan

Whew, what a long, weird meet. If something could go wrong tonight, it seems it did. Fast had many scratches and changes to their entries tonight which delayed things from starting and then our computer decided to seed the meet as if we had 8 lanes–we only have 6. We told it 6 but it kept seeding as 8. Very frustrating. Therese Crispell and Jim Bahls had to manually seed the meet which took a lot of time. Thank you both for doing this. This isn’t easy–especially when many are hovering around them–trying to get things to speed up. Our old microphone stopped working so we bought a new one and it worked fine for the last meet, but tonight decided to cut in and out. Again, frustrating. A big thank you to John Goard for stepping in in Jay’s absence tonight and doing a great job at announcing the meet. It’s harder than it looks.

Thank you to all of our swimmers who swam so well tonight. You did great. Anna Borchers, that was a lot of pressure to swim that IM alone. Good job.

Parents, thank you for helping us run our meet tonight. It takes so much work to set-up the pool, run the meet, feed us, time, judge, and clean-up after–especially when it’s so late. I really appreciate all your hard work for our team. I know many of you do multiple jobs to help. Thank you so much. By the way, that stingray cafe keeps getting better. I loved my Italian sausage sandwich. Delicious. Thank you to all for supporting the snack bar. It looks like we made a good amount of money for our team tonight.

Coaches, we couldn’t have these good meets without all your help, knowledge, and guidance. Thank you. You make our team succeed.

Our next meet (should be interesting…DBAC lost tonight to Ruby Hill) is Saturday, July 11, against DBAC at their pool. The meet will begin at 9:00 a.m. all swimmers must arrive and be checked in with their coach by 8:00. The scratch meeting will be at 8:15. We are missing many swimmers and quite a few have to leave early from this meet. We’ll see how we do. Coach Julianne will also be missing this meet. 7-8 swimmers should check in with the junior coaches.

Championship t-shirt pre-orders are due to me by Saturday at the end of the meet.

Please consider joining us for our pasta feed fundraiser next Thursday. $5 per person. I’ve only heard from a few of you. I need a RSVP if you’re attending by Saturday as well as your payment.

Okay, I think that’s it for now. I’m beat. Take good care.
Goodnight,
Joan

Sammy Stingray

Hi Swimmers and Parents,

Sammy Stingray here. The photos from last night’s swim meet against the Dublin Green Gators are ready. Sammy will be sending out an email with a guest pass to Flickr to your parents later this evening after Sammy gets home from work.

You all swam very well and no one needed night goggles to swim in the dark.

Have a fun and safe 4th of July.

Cheers,

Sammy Stingray
