June 29 Note

June 29, 2008

How wonderful it was to be back at our own pool and watching our great swimmers perform.

Thank you, swimmers, for doing your best today. Times keep dropping. I saw lots of tattooed bodies around the pool today which signified a time lower than the previous meet. Way to swim fast, Stingrays.

Thank you, parents and families, for helping us run this meet and for supporting our team. I always say it, but we couldn’t do what we did today without all your help. It was also great seeing former Del Prado swimmers cheering on their team.

Coaches, you are an amazing bunch. You seeded us a great meet and give the best feedback to our swimmers on how to keep improving. I love your spirit.

A couple things for the week ahead:

Monday, June 30th -  Morning and Evening Practices
We will have double practices this Monday, June 30. The morning practice is optional. Coaches Jamie, Julianne, and Taylor will be heading this practice. We will hold regular evening practice as well.

Wednesday, July 2nd - Morning Practice

We will have regular morning practice on wednesday, the day of the meet.

Wednesday, July 2nd - Del Prado vs. Briarhill at our Pool

We have a home swim meet on Wednesday, July 2nd against Briarhill. that meet will begin at 6:00 p.m. all swimmers need to be checked in with their coach by 5:00pm. The scratch meeting will be at 5:15. Bud and Kevin and their snack bar crew should be cookin’ up some good food for this meet. If your swimmer will not be swimming on Wednesday, their coach needs to know ASAP.

The deadline for this was yesterday.

July 3 and July 4th

There will be no practice on Thursday, July 3 nor Friday, July 4. Have a happy and safe long weekend. there will be optional monday morning practice on monday, july 7.

That’s it for now. Take good care and happy 4th.
Go Stingrays,
Joan

FAST Swim Meet Summary

June 21, 2008

Foothill Pool

Well, what a hot way to begin our swim season.

Del Prado Stingrays 693
FAST Dolphins 287

Results and Times —> dp-vsfast-june-21-2008

Today’s meet ran a bit longer than usual. Thank you for being so patient and thank you all for showing up on time and ready to swim. And, did we have great swims!! Thank you, swimmers, for swimming your best today. What a joy it is to watch the young ones swim their first meet and to watch even older ones who’ve never swam before, do so well. You really entertained your coaches, coordinator, and families alike.
Our staff of volunteers is the BEST! We could never run a meet without all of your help. Thank you to the veteran volunteers who helped our “rookie” staff. A big thank you to Lori Doi, who not only was our volunteer meet coordinator, but also did line-ups, set-up, and clean-up. (Hiroshi helped with that. )
Thank you, coaches, for all your help today and for seeding us a good meet.
Our next meet will be at home against DBAC (City of Pleasanton Aquatic Center) on Saturday, June 28. That meet will begin at 9:00 a.m. Deadline to let your coach know if you can’t swim is Monday.
That’s it for now. Take good care and enjoy the weekend.
GO STINGRAYS!
Joan

PS. Stay Tuned Swimmers. Sammy Stingray is working hard on getting the swim meet photo page ready!

June 21 Del Prado vs. FAST at Foothill

June 20, 2008

 vs.

Our first dual meet of the season is this Saturday, June 21 against the FAST Dolphins. FAST swims at Foothill High School’s pool. This meet will begin later than all other meets–9:30. They have noise restrictions from the surrounding neighborhood that prohibits a meet beginning before 9:30 a.m.

Directions to FAST Pool  –> Map

4375 Foothill Rd
Pleasanton, CA 94588-9720

Once you pull into the main lot, make an immediate right into another gate (which hopefully, will be open), and follow down until the end. You’ll see tennis courts and behind the tennis courts is the pool. All swimmers need to be checked in with their coach by 8:30 a.m. a scratch meeting will take place at 8:45, and if your swimmer has not checked in with their coach, they will be scratched from the meet. We do not ever want this to happen. New swimmers, I will have a Del Prado Swim Team cap for you which I’ll give to you that morning. You should also plan to bring warm clothes (it may be chilly in the early morning), team suit, goggles, towels, blanket, chairs, sunscreen, drinks, and snacks. most teams do provide a snack bar. FAST will be running 8 lanes so this meet should end around 12:30.

If you know now that your swimmer won’t be able to swim at a future meet, please let their coach know now. It’s good to have an idea ahead of time of what swimmers we’ll have and not have for particular meets. Please do this in writing.

Whew. okay, i think that’s it for now.
go stingrays,
Joan
